Oil and Wax, 16 x 20 inches

This is a painting of a well-known Lake Superior island (Sleeping Giant) depicted during a stormy evening. There is an intricate blending of subtle, cool colours throughout this piece which attempts to render the movement of early evening shifting seas.

  • “Painting is a tangible, sensory experience, an intense “being stirred” by the joy and the tragedy of man. A spatial experience which, nourished by instinct, becomes a living form. I try to capture this tangible reality in paint and in so doing give expression to my times.” – Karel Appel (1921-2006)
