GORGES I

Oil and Wax, 12 x 16 inches

This oil and wax painting is part of a series that conveys an impression of the spaces where water finds its way between steep, dominant and ominous rock formations. Though these are relatively small works, there is an intricate blending of colour and a heavy reliance on texture and detail throughout to effectively portray the majesty of the scene.

  • “The artist stands face to face with nature without thinking of himself; he receives everything from it, lets himself be impressed by it without afterthought, and abandons himself to the joy of contemplation.” – Paul Collaer (1892-1989)
