ALGOMA BOREAL I

Mixed Media, 16 x 20 inches

The inspiration for the Algoma Boreal series was dawn light in an Algoma region (Ontario) forest as clouds were clearing after a heavy rainfall. There is often a slight greenish tinge to the light if it is warm after a heavy rain. I wanted to convey the dampness of forest air and the feeling of looking at the sky through mist and trees as a storm is passing.

  • “When I was young, I believed…that painting was a sort of reaction which reconstructed the spectacle before our eyes, preserving our memory of it, or that it allowed us to reconstruct or imagine some scene which illustrated an idea. Now I think that painting is rather in the domain of philosophy.” – Jacques Villon (1875-1963)
